Today is National Record Store Day and we can think of no better reason to share the first record each of the Purple team ever bought. Some are a little cringe, whilst others remain classics!

Beatles Abbey Road - In the early sixties my Mum used to buy the Beatles albums for me but as soon as I hit teenage years, and earning pennies from my newspaper round, I was able to start making my own purchases and Abbey Road was the first in 1969 when I was 13 years old. My musical taste soon then changed to rock with albums such as ‘Then Play On’ by early Fleetwood Mac, ‘Split’ by the Groundhogs, ‘Three Friends’ by Gentle Giant before getting into Hawkwind, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and many many more since then...

AC/DC - For those about to rock - I was 12 when I bought it and it was the loudest music I’d ever heard and thought it was just awesome. Brian Johnson has (had) a true rock voice.
Andrew
I think I’ve only ever owned 2 records - The first was gifted to me back in 1997 which was “Spice World” #GirlPower.
The other was “Late Registration” by Kanye West - Which can’t be listened to on shuffle.

I am embarrassed to say that my first ever album was by B*witched, I was a true 90’s child and C’est La Vie was the anthem of 1997! I used to be able to sing ALL of the words, I mean, I obviously can’t still do that now, or can I?!
“I'll huff, I'll puff, I'll huff, I'll puff, I'll blow you away!”
James
I can’t really ever remember buying a CD or album but I used to drive my parents crazy singing the Bare Necessities from the Jungle Book!!

The first album I ever bought myself was Spice World (as Andrew said #GirlPower) - I was a HUGE Spice Girls fan and spent most of my childhood with my hair in a ponytail with two strands left out like Mel C aka Sporty Spice.
There may also be home video footage of me being interviewed in character as Posh Spice...

Unfortunately, I have never before bought a record for myself, I have always just listened to what my parents would put on in the car or radio, or if I would ask for a song they would put it on. I have never invested any of my own money into music other than paying for a Spotify premium membership, however, as a child the one disc I would like to listen to a CD my parents owned called “Now that’s what I call music - 73”

Roxy Music by Roxy Music… It sounded like it came from the future when released in Summer of 1972 and still does now. I have subsequently bought every Brian Eno release since.

Kings of Leon - Only By The Night: I originally bought this as a birthday present for my Mum but ended up keeping it for myself.... Sorry Mum!
Now we have shared ours, why not let us know your first ever album!
