What a great day for Richmond as we finally get confirmation that we will be the Stage 3 start for the 2018 Tour de Yorkshire on Saturday 5th May.
The morning got off to an exciting start in the Market Place with Sir Gary Verity (Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire) and Christian Prudhomme (Director of the Tour de France) meeting with local dignitaries including the Mayor, the Head of Richmondshire District Council, numerous local business representatives (including yours truly) and various cycling enthusiasts all gathered for press photography.
The route will start near Easby Abbey and then head out through Catterick Garrison to Leyburn, Bedale, Aiskew, with a sprint at Morton on Swale, and take in some of the North York Moors National Park before a classic finish on the Scarborough seafront.
Phil has recently been elected as the Chairman of the Richmond Steering Group, for the Tour de Yorkshire planning, working closely with Richmondshire District Council and Welcome to Yorkshire to help collate ideas for activities and events to celebrate this great opportunity for Richmond.
So keep checking in with us for news updates on how Phil and Purple will be doing their bit for the town...
