Maisy's 5th Month at Purple!

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY πŸŽ‰

We’re here, it’s finally 2021 - the year we have all tiptoed into quietly. We have come such a long way and this week really does feel extremely bitter sweet as it has brought us the deflating news of lockdown take 3. However, on a more positive note, this week is also the beginning of the roll out of the Oxford Vaccine which really is a game changer as it can be distributed to the people who were missing out on the Pfizer vaccine due to it’s tricky storage situation. In the spirit of not jinxing this year with words put out into the universe, I will say no more and simply send you all a virtual hug of hope instead πŸ’œ

With that said and hugs delivered, are you ready to hear about December’s antics at Purple Creative?

With Christmas and New Year eating a week of Purple working time, December felt extremely short lived, however that hasn’t stopped us from squeezing lots in. If you have been following my monthly blogs, you will know that today’s blog is mostly dedicated to telling you all about Purple’s Virtual Christmas PartyπŸŽ‰ All will soon be revealed. I will leave the best ‘til last…

So, what's been going on?

December saw my first progress reviews, with both Purple and my apprenticeship development coach from Apprentify. These reviews forced me to look back at the last 4 months and really consider how I felt I was doing, what I think I could be doing better and also my hopes for the future. It has been a real whirlwind of a first quarter for me with everything being so new - a new job and role, a new way of learning, a new way of working and new colleagues that are more like friends! I feel I have taken everything within my stride and made myself take on challenges in hopes of learning even more. Well, it’s safe to say I could wipe the sweat away from my brow early on in both reviews when I was reassured that everyone is very pleased with my work in both areas and feel I am progressing well! I couldn’t have asked for a better review at this point and it really makes me want to strive for more, come the next reviews! Wish me luck! πŸ€

Now, when anyone asks me how I find working from home, I always have the same response. I tell them how I am really enjoying my job and that because I haven’t known anything different, working from home feels extremely normal to me. This is mostly due to the AMAZING efforts that Purple have put in place in order for us all to be able to work to the best of our ability at home. Before I began, I was equipped with a PC and monitors, a phone and headsets; all the things I could need to keep in touch with the team and learn the ropes of my role as best I could. My response to working from home is still the same, it’s going extremely well. However, December gave me my first technical hiccup and made me realise just really how lucky I am to be part of such a nurturing team and the privilege of having the set up which we do as my PC decided it no longer wanted to cooperate and I was working from my laptop for a few days - oh how I missed my dual monitor setup and was super appreciative of it once we were reunited!!

It actually decided to give up on me whilst the Christmas party was in full swing (how’s that for timing!), it must have felt I was embarrassing myself too much πŸ˜‚

So, speaking of our virtual Christmas party… I’m a little unsure how to put it into words in all honesty. It was truly one of the funniest and funnest staff parties I have attended. We all had such a blast! Allan and Emma really pulled it out the bag with this one. We know they were both unsure as to how the party would go, we all were really, having not been part of a virtual Christmas party before. However I don’t think any of us could have hoped for a better virtual do, nor could we have organised it as well as they did! πŸ‘

It began with a Christmas delivery, courtesy of the elves (who looked suspiciously like Phil and Allan… ). Each of our deliveries consisted of our Secret Santa gifts, Christmas cards, a Saddle Room Christmas dinner, ingredients for a special Purple cocktail accompanied by a personalised tumbler, Christmas crackers, party poppers and a net of chocolate sprouts!! What more could we ask for? We ate, drank, laughed, solved a murder mystery, scratched our heads during our Purple quiz and laughed some more. It really was a great night!
