Northallerton Mencap is an independent charity who have been supporting individuals and their families who have learning disabilities for over 50 years. They run a range of clubs and activities alongside a packed Events programme that strives to help and support as many people as possible.
We have worked with Northallerton Mencap since 2014, however, the charity has evolved significantly since then and there was a need for a new website that showed the difference that the charity had made to the local community. It was also incredibly important that the new website retained its identity as a small independent charity whilst acknowledging the relationship with Royal Mencap.
The new website needed to also introduce new features, such as ‘The Big Quiz’, an easy way to donate and a busy Events schedule.
What We Did
Our design team created a bespoke design using the Royal Mencap branding whilst preserving their identity as a local charity by featuring their imagery throughout. The design needed to be bold, impactful, and more playful, which was achieved through the use of icons and a vivid colour palette.
Northallerton Mencap also wanted to give people a reason to revisit the website regularly and felt a quiz function provided a novel way of engaging with the website whilst learning more about the charity.
The website design was approved by the charity’s board of trustees and unveiled recently at their monthly committee meeting. Including the trustees throughout the process helped to streamline the sign-off process and the website has already received lots of positive feedback. Following training, Northallerton Mencap staff and volunteers will be able to keep the website refreshed with news stories, events, and images that demonstrate the amazing work they do in supporting adults with disabilities.
