Is sending email marketing campaigns GDPR compliant?
The new laws regarding GDPR came into effect on the 25th of May 2018 and for most businesses this has meant a review of the personal data they hold in their mailing lists.
GDPR is a huge minefield and we are by no means legal experts on the subject, but all the information available suggests that for email mailing lists the main concern is ensuring that people have given informed consent for you to hold their personal data.
It is for this reason that we recommend to our clients that they use an email marketing platform rather than sending mass emails from their own email account.
MailChimp for example has many features that make it easy to stay on the right side of GDPR compliance, such as double opt in for customers and the option to unsubscribe or manage preferences watermarked at the bottom of every campaign sent through the platform.
