When reviewing your website with the hopes of improving your position in search results, there are lots of tasks we have covered that take time to implement as well as time to see that effort paid off with improvement in your rankings, but this next tip is what we would consider a ‘quick win’ in the world of SEO!
Our tip this month is to show users and search engines that you take the security of the data they share with you seriously by securing your site with an SSL certificate.
Search Engines are always striving to make the internet as safe a place as possible for its users and places a lot of emphasis on the quality and trust of a site. By applying an SSL certificate to your site, it is a big indicator to search engines that you share this goal.
Since October of last year Google has also started to flag to users when they are on a site without an SSL certificate marking it as ‘Not Secure’ in the address bar of the Chrome browser or even showing users a warning message on their screen asking them to acknowledge they know the site they are trying to access isn’t secure before they access it. As you can imagine, a warning like this could be quite worrying to a user, particularly if your website requires people to share data like their bank card information.
We think SSL certificates are so important and have a whole page of our website dedicated to this if you would like to learn more.
