Firstly, what are LSI keywords? LSI stands for Latent Semantic Indexing and is a very complicated acronym that in its essence means keywords related to the keyword that you search for on search engines such as Google. In a nutshell, they are keywords that are semantically linked to your main keyword.
When someone searches online Google and other search engines are looking for the intent behind the query. For example, someone searching for apple might be looking for Apple products or something to do with the fruit. In most instances a searcher will give more context to their search by adding details like apple phones or apple recipes. When someone then hits search on a query like this Google is looking for sites with content that not only matches the search phrase, but also other words associated with the same term. This is to stop peoplekeyword stuffing or using underhanded SEO tactics such as adding a popular keyword to their content when it has nothing to do with the subject covered on the page.
Google has confirmed that by using more LSI keywords, your page will typically rank better and happily there are lots of tools online to help you find LSI keywords for you to work into your page content. A few of our favourite ways to look for LSI keywords are:
What better place to look for terms related to your keyword than Google itself. When you start to type a keyword into Google it will often start to suggest search terms for you and notingthese down is a great way to build a list of the type of things people are looking for and more importantly, typing into Google, when they are looking for your goods or services.
This tool is really easy to use, by entering your keyword or phrase and clicking ‘Generate’ it will return a list of related keywords and phrases.
Ubersuggest is my favourite of all the LSI tools we have found online. Not only does it allow you to search different media, it also lets you choose the country you would like the results from. This is really helpful as people in the US, for example, might not use the same phrases as a British audience when searching online. The results from Ubersuggest also show handy information like how competitive the keyword is as well as giving you an indication of the Cost Per Click if you decided you would like to use Google AdWords to boost your position for the term.
We hope you have found this helpful and will use the tools we mentioned to help shape your content and create really engaging experiences for your website visitors!
