Email Marketing Top Tips

Email Marketing is a fantastic way to reach people who don’t use Social Media and is an incredibly useful tool, if used correctly, to acquire new customers to a business. We could talk about email marketing all day long (and sometimes do on our workshops!) but today we wanted to chat to you about how to get people to sign up to your digital newsletter.

Include a link in your email signature

A quick and simple thing to do is to create a graphic that looks like a button, using something like Canva, and link people to your newsletter sign up form.  We would encourage that you use a double opt in to ensure that you are GDPR compliant which means that people sign up, and then have to confirm their email address.

Add a Sign up form on your website

Add a sign up form in the footer of your website that allows visitors to easily sign up to your newsletter.  You could also add a Pop Up if you wanted that grabbed the attention of your website visitors.  We use a email platform called Mailchimp and they have a very easy and intuitive form builder which allows you to create forms such as these for people to use.

Social Media Integration

To make it easier for your Facebook followers to sign up to your newsletter make sure you use the integration tool to add a signup option on your business pages.  A handy guide can be found here.

Create a Lead Magnet

Lead Magnets are an essential tool to help attract new people to sign up to your mailing list.  It is a free offer that incentivises people to join our mailing lists, some examples of lead magnets might be…

  • A free download, for example a PDF
  • A video file
  • An audio file
  • A Webinar
  • A whitepaper

Make sure you promote your lead magnet on your website, social media channels, and other marketing channels to attract new quality contacts.

Events and Shows

If you are exhibiting an Event or Show, create a sign up form for your newsletter and have it loaded on an iPad or tablet, so anyone passing can easily sign up to your newsletter without you having to collect fiddly scraps of paper and manually input the data at a later date.

Guest Blogging

If there is a business or organisation that compliments what you do, why not offer to write a blog for their website that encourages readers to sign u to your newsletter if they found the information interesting or useful.  This can be a great way to reach out to brand new contacts who may not have heard of you before.

We hope the above list has given you some inspiration to start growing your lost. We know that building a list from scratch or trying to grow an existing list can be hard work and can seem like a daunting task, but it is always better to have fewer contacts who are engaged than a large list of people who are not opening the emails you have worked hard to create.

If you would like to sign up to our newsletter to be kept up to date with industry news and what we have been up to then you can sign up here!
